Hi all, these days I had a chance to work on a 2003 Nissan Micra. This is my friend’s car. The main task was to polish and protect the headlights and to eliminate the rust from hood and sides for a retouch job. To be honest, the car would need a serious repaint to make it look perfect, but to avoid expenses it was done the other way...
It was a rainy day, the car was delivered right from the automatic carwash.
In the garage:
Dried with Chemical Guys Woolly Mammoth
Time to clay, using 3M clay and Meg's Last touch : Distilled water at 1:1 ratio.
I expected heavier contamination on upper panels, however only on the lower parts of the vehicle the clay picked up some more dirt.
Inspecting around the car to see the defects…
Greyhound! Is this a greyhound?!? Of course it’s a greyhound!
I’ve told you guys, this is my friend’s car:thumb:
Some more inspection around the car…
Door shuts were cleaned with Wolf’s Wash & Wipe Mean Green.
The rust was rubbed off with several sharp objects.
A quick test was performed with Meg’s UC, mainly just to check the clear coat hardness.
Headlights needed some serious attention.
Before wet sanding.
After wet sanding.
Ready to get some paint and clear coat on.
First the bonnet.
While paint on the bonnet was drying, the headlights were re-clear coated.
Protected all around.
Clear coat drying.
Ready to paint the other parts.
Then the painted areas were left about an hour to dry before the clear coat was applied.
On to the next day. The paintwork was enhanced with Menz SF4000, some parts, where more correction was needed, was treated with Meg’s UC and/of FG400.
Left door.
Before.
After. The dent surely remained…
Bird droppings caused this. It could not be polished, just masked a bit with Poorboy’s Black Hole. Very little effect though.
The rear part.
The right door.
Again, moving on to the front part. Clear coat fully dried, time to wet sand.
After wet sanding some passes with 3M Trizact #3000 on DA was performed…
…leaving this.
All polished out. Certainly not perfect, but huge improvement.
Interior cleaning was not ordered. But just couldn’t help myself. And didn’t want the car like this to leave my garage… After removing carpets:
Dashboard.
More interior.
All vacuumed.
Some more Mean Green (used as APC).
Removed old vignettes.
Time so LSP. AF Power seal was applied on paintwork.
FINISHED.
The next day, outside in the morning sun.
Then, after the car was already colletected, I realized I forgot to take photos of the sides!!! So went by and took some photos with the cell phone…
Final one, just to see the before & after difference in one photo:thumb:
Total working time: about 15 hours.
Thanks for watching
